Description

Prisma color pencil study. Been a long time for any wildlife stuff. Total time 11 hours. Never been fond of colored pencils but I think I'm having a change of heart

Wolves rock, great piece of wildlife-art.
But the disadvantage is that this one is (if i'm right...) done from a fairly wellknown photo.

Anyway, the colors are beautifull and humble, the detail is pretty, it's all good. +9

Maybe you'd like to check out my wolfdrawing?

Hello Artoonator,

You are part right in the use of reference. Actually several were used to get all the information required for me to create this study. One for the main pose, though turned slightly for a more direct side view. One to show clearly the lips and gums, and finally a couple of others to show different ear positions to choose from. More over some emailed me that there is now a problem with photo referencing here. This was a demo to show students how to think about rendering fur patterns. Who ever is in charge just let me know if it should be removed.

This is really well done. So what if you used reference. As long as you didn't do a direct copy of someone else's work.

The overall quality of the work is great, but wolf s basic difference from other canines is they have a long nose...This wolf nose is a little short. But the fur looks great good job +7/7

Well rendered, but the snout is a little short and I've never seen a wolf with orange fur. You have captured the beauty of these gorgeous animals however.

Prisma colors are my absolute favorite pencil. You really deserve to have something of yours in the spotlight. This ,like your other stuff has that trademark solid feel. I aspire to have that in my work someday...

Awesome piece. Although I would have given the eye less of a peaceful stare.. but what do I know. :)

I like it. I think you have got the colours spot on. Wolves do sometimes have a redish tint to the fur and its highlighted more in the sun light. And the muzzles of wolves do tend to shorten when they are snarling to expose the teeth. Sorry people, enough of the natural history lessons, I think it is a very good take on wildlife art. I think I have a wolf pic among my gallery.

very nice shading! I think you may be right to change your mind about colored pencils! ;)
The muzzle on the wolf is a bit short, n the length you have on his mouth is definitely short n broad, but other than that it is a very nicely done piece :) I love the detail of the eye! and as silly as it sounds the detail on the nose is very nice as well!
